We are so privileged to host a special event with Venerable Dr. Pannavati. A former Christian pastor, Ven. Pannavati is the co-founder and co-Abbot of the Embracing Simplicity Hermitage in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Venerable Pannavati will provide us with a Buddhist-related talk, a guided meditation, and a Question & Answer period.

Talk Title:  The Peace that Passes All Understanding.

“Our ordinary understanding and acceptance of life’s vicissitudes is dependent upon our sensory perceptions and habitual tendencies. In other words, we see the world as we are. The Buddha points us to a place where we can transcend the ordinary and through the stilling of thought, allow an essential wisdom we already possess to emerge and alter the structure of appearances. This is here, where lasting contentment and assurance is found.”

Ven. Pannavati, a black, female Buddhist monk, was ordained in the Theravada and Mahayana traditions with Vajrayana empowerments and transmission from Roshi Bernie Glassman of Zen Peacemakers. She is both contemplative and empowered for compassionate service.

As an international teacher, she advocates globally on behalf of disempowered women and youth, and she insists on equality and respect in Buddhist life for both female monastics and lay sangha. She was a 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Buddhist Women’s Award.

Ven. Pannavati remains committed to advocacy for the homeless, sick and disenfranchised, those who are marginalized, abused, neglected and unloved. She loves the Dhamma, lives the Dhamma, and teaches the Dhamma internationally.
